4. I compete my horse regularly during the summer months, what is the best way to stop her becoming dehydrated?

You don’t have to be competing at the top level to be concerned about electrolyte supply and dehydration. As little as 2% dehydration can affect performance, prolong recovery time after exertion and can contribute to an attack of azoturia.

Ordinary table salt added to the feed on a daily basis at 1-2 tablespoons is an excellent source of sodium. However, a focused rehydration therapy is essential for all horses that lose large amounts of fluid during work or travelling. Rehydration is also important for horses who become tense or excitable during work. Adding back the lost electrolyte salts in these cases is only half the story, as both fluids and carbohydrates are essential for optimum recovery.

EQUIVITE® Resorb can do all these jobs. It is an unique rehydrating electrolyte in powder form which forms a highly palatable isotonic drink when added to water, or can be fed directly in the feed. In trials, horses offered water in which Resorb had been dissolved preferred this to plain water. Its scientifically researched formulation facilitates rapid absorption to replenish water and electrolytes lost during strenuous exercise, digestive upsets and high temperatures and is suitable for horses at all levels of competition.
