1. I feed my horse a compound feed, do I need to feed a supplement aswell?

This is probably the most frequently asked question on the Careline in regards to supplements. The simple answer is it depends on how much compound feed you feed. You need to be feeding the recommended amount for the size of your horse or pony and the amount of work he or she is doing. Compound feeds are fully fortified with vitamins and minerals and should provide your horse with a balanced diet but only if fed at the correct amount.

If you are feeding below the manufacturers recommended amount you will need to feed a daily multi-vitamin and mineral supplement to make up for the shortfall in vitamins and micronutrients. However, if you are feeding some compound feed the amount of supplement you give on a daily basis can be reduced. For example if you are feeding less than 2 kg of feed per day to a horse you only need to add in 50 grams of EQUIVITE® Original to make up for this shortfall.
